Tom thanks so much for your comments about the Persephone poem. Not an easy one to write. So much that touches so many on such a personal level.
I was inspired by a poem written by Selene S. which mentioned the red poppies. A flower associated with death and with altered states of consciousness. I have a book by Gordon Wasson that gives a beautiful version of the Homeric Hymn and then discusses the use of certain plants with mind altering qualities at Eleusis.. part of the Mysteries of Eleusis. What a great book to love as a child (Bullfinch). I have to admit that as a kid fairy tales and mythology terrified me for I felt a magical power within them.. a real energy.. that I could not explain... so I came to it all as a young adult studying Jung. Now I am fine with that energy. Great to hear from you! Bright Blessings and joy, Isis

Tom, Ted is your kind of guy! Since he can't stay out of Afghanistan for long, he's going to continue on as a consultant to us, and turn over the country director position to someone else. Really, if you ever find yourself in Kabul, he will take you under his protectorate, and take you everywhere. He's my favorite colleague, and even though he is miles and countries away, our minds tend to be very close in thought. His stories turn into poems to me, and his life really is one he should write about. He's a young guy -- 72 -- with plenty of years left!

Thank you for your lovely comments, Tom! I love when you are first on the scene, and give my work measures of thought that are poetry all by themselves. : - )

Tom, thanks for your lovely comments on my poem! It was really a story, told in very short lines. Funerals in my family tend to be wacky affairs, for some reason -- the laughing, whether we should or not, tends to let more light in. Cheers! Love your entry today, by the way!

Tom, I saw your comment about hippies and the summer of love on Isis' page and it intrigued me. I am also not used to these hours, I am about half asleep and typing in slow motion. I read your poem "Light" and really liked it. I was wondering if you would be interested in joining our group Post Art - Any Medium. Ping me back and let me know and if you are interested and I will send you an invitation. Or just go over and join. Either way is ok. GET SOME SLEEP! Chana

Thank you for your birthday wishes... very nice! Loved hearing from you and all you are sharing. Truly cool.
JFW made some comments on another copy of the poem and so I have two versions up now if you want to see the changes. Hope to hear from you more! Bright Blessings, Isis |
